Ahly of Egypt became the first club to reach the semi finals at the ongoing African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Cub Championship holding in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The nine-time winners (1999, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019) defeated Kenya Prisons 3 set to 1 25-12, 25-20, 22-25, 27-25.
The match which was watched by a couple of spectators lived up to billings as the Egyptians proved their superiority winning the first two sets 25-12, 25-20 before the Kenyans rallied back in the third round to edge the former champions 25-22.
The last quarter put spectators and the coaching crew of both sides on the edge of their seats as the players engaged in battle of skills, power and tactics which at the end went the Egyptians way as they 27-25.
Ahly will face the winners between Litto of Cameroon and Carthage of Tunisia.
