President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, has said he is happy with his achievement during his reign as the head of the federation. Ogba said his legacy couldn’t be wished away as he assured that he would not be going for third term as has been speculated in some quarters.

“I don’t have any regrets as the president of AFN because I believe in what I achieved during my eight years,” he told journalists.

“Two major achievement of this board were the Okpekpe 10km Road Race and the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon and nobody can wish that away.

“People said we didn’t achieve anything at the last Olympic Game in Rio, Brazil, but the athletes got to six semifinals and two finals, if it was in other sports, that already amount to podium placement.

“Also we were virtually at every tournament during my reign especially the junior competitions which was not easy looking at the situation in the country when it comes to releasing funds for other sports.”

According to him, he is not interested in coming back as the president as he’s already been engaged by an international athletic organisation. He added: “I will be busy with a new assignment soon and there is no way I will be able to combine the two, so I am not thinking about coming back as the president.

“I believe someone that will improve on my achievements will come on board as the president of AFN.”
