*Ayade, Okorocha drums up support for Buhari government

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, has urged Nigerians to keep faith with the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari as one that is very sincere and determined to save the nation from the current throes we are passing through.

The Minister disclosed this at a thanks-giving and reception programme held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, meant to celebrate his appointment as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He charged the people of Cross River State and the entire indigenes of the Niger Delta region to support the present administration in the country in order to bring more development into the area. The Minister stressed that Nigerians should support the government in its bid to guarantee a better and safer future for the country despite the current hardship.

Usani noted that he was not celebrating one year in the office, but appreciating God for what He has done in his life over the years.

The Minister asserted: “The greatest moments of history are recorded under compelling divine direction. At other times, positive history beckons on the indifferent lot.” He added that “history is recorded in positive and negative terms, so let no man count on his strength, but on the perfect will of God”.

In a related development, Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade attested that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani  was known for honesty, humility and forthrightness; stressing that he, the Minister and other Niger Deltans would collaborate towards the development of  Cross River State and the Niger Delta Region.

The Governor added that the state has never had it so good before the administration of President Buhari where a number of indigenes of Cross River State are occupying strategic positions in government.

While calling on the citizens of the state to support the Niger Delta Minister and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Ayade called on public officers to see their  offices as avenues to serve the people and not to amass material wealth.

In his goodwill message, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State attributed hatred as the major bane of Nigerian progress. He called on all Nigerians to shun any act of hatred in order to move the country forward.

Meanwhile, the Chairman Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Senator Ndoma Egba urged the Minister not to be deterred by distractions from any quarters but to focus on the good works he has started in the Niger Delta region.

Other dignitaries at the occasion included the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, William Alo, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara who was represented by Hon. Pally Iriase, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Obong Nsima Ekere, Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, former Military Administrators of Cross River State and other government functionaries.
