A Non-Governmental Organisation, Abi Sheila Foundation in response to the Federal Government and Rivers State calls for all hands to be on deck to curtail the spread of Coronavirus, has commenced sensitization and distribution of foodstuff to residents of Abuloma in Port Harcourt, Rivers State who are under the lockdown directives,

The association said the gesture was geared towards complementing government’s efforts at mitigating the impact of the lock-down following the novel Coronavirus, outbreak.

The Founder of the NGO and the President, National Council for Women Society, (NCWS), Rivers State Chapter, Ms. Abi Sheila, in chat with, recently stated that the distribution of food stuff would continue throughout the period of lock-down.

“’This is also our own little way of supporting government’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19, that has continued to ravage the world. “The food items are being contributed by friends and individuals with kind hearts, to assist the needy. “The items will only be given at the grassroots to the vulnerable, homeless and indigent beggars.”


She called on Nigerians to comply with the Stay at Home and Stay Safe directives to curb the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus, while advising Nigerians to adhere to the social distancing, washing of hands regularly, and no touching of face rules, for healthy living and fight against spread of COVID-19.

Sheila said that the foundation was out not only to help prevent and curtail spread of the virus but also to reduce the hardship occasioned by the partial lockdown which according to her, is near total in the state.

“This trying period occasioned by the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic demands the cooperation of all and sundry especially the well-to-do individuals and organizations to compliment government’s containment efforts of the deadly disease.”

She further enjoined all Nigerians to see Coronavirus pandemic as a national crisis and a call to duty to be our brother’s keeper at this critical time.
