Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has expressed disappointment and frustration after being surprisingly dropped from Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Kanu revealed that she was not given a clear reason for her omission, despite asking the coach for an explanation.

“I felt sad because I had already started processing my visa, only to be informed I wasn’t part of the team a few days before the tournament,” Kanu said, highlighting the emotional impact of the decision.

The forward had been preparing for the tournament, and her exclusion came as a shock to many fans and analysts who expected her to be part of the squad. Kanu’s absence will likely be felt, given her pace, versatility, and experience on the continental stage.

This development raises questions about the team’s attacking options and the communication process within the camp. The Super Falcons, led by coach Justin Madugu, are set to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco next year, and Kanu’s omission is a significant blow to their preparations.

In similar situations, coach Justin Madugu has defended his decisions, citing the need to make tough choices in selecting the final squad. He emphasized that CAF regulations limit the number of players that can be included, making it a challenging task to accommodate all deserving players.
