Don’t ignore petition against JAMB boss, UNILORIN VC —ASUU, group

Prof Ishiaq Oloyede Registrar of JAMB…accused of fraud

*I am not fraudulent – Oloyede retorts

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin chapter and an anti-corruption group, Movement for Corruption-free Nigeria (MOCON), have told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not to ignore the petition against the immediate past vice chancellor of the university and registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede and his successor, Professor A.G. Ambali.

The union had, on Thursday, filed a petition against Oloyede and Ambali at the EFCC zonal office in Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing them of pension fraud, extortion of students and other alleged crimes totalling about N1.5 billion.

The chairman of the academic staff union in UNILORIN and signatory to the petition, Dr Kayode Afolayan, said: “there are action plans to ensure that the petition is not swept under the carpet. We are prepared to pursue the petition and prevent it from being swept under. But we need the press and Nigerians to also take the anti-graft agency to task.”

The JAMB registrar in a reaction described the allegations against him as baseless and outright falsehood, noting that he had never been fraudulent in his life.

Oloyede, in a rebuttal made available to www.gongnews.net explained some of the issues that formed the basis for the petition, such as the contributory pension scheme and the alleged extortion of students for information communication technology, noting that he could not be accused of any wrongdoing.

He made clarifications on the process taken by the institution on the pension scheme from January 2007, stating that the allegations of fraud were baseless.

“This statement is just to re-assure my admirers that the allegations against me are like pure wind with no solidity. I remain who I have ever been by the special grace of Allah, the Almighty. Lastly, my explanation does not foreclose the possibility of legal action against the authors of the campaign of calumny against me and their willing collaborators. For the latter, I hope they will have the shame of publishing my rebuttal and if they don’t, I still believe it will reach all the right audience, anyway,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, MOCON, in a statement by its Executive Director, T.J. Omidiran and made available to www.gongnews.net said: “Nigerians are waiting to see how the petition against the JAMB Registrar and the UNILORIN VC would be handled by an anti-graft agency directly under President Muhammadu Buhari.
