Gymnastics: TIG Tasks FG, Stakeholders On Standard Equipment


Anthony Asuquo, the Proprietor of Tony International Gymnastics Club (TIG) has urged governments, and stakeholders to support Gymnasts with standard equipment to boost their performances.

Asuquo made the call in an interview with the newmen in Abuja He said that with quality equipment, gymnasts in the country would attain podium success locally and internationally.

“Gymnastics equipment effectively serves as a medium on which Gymnasts demonstrate their strength and agility.

“We need flooring, mats, safety equipment, rhythmic gymnastics equipment, balance beam, bars in order to produce the best in the Olympics.

Asuquo said that the quality of equipment at the disposal of the Gymnasts, would give them a platform to showcase their flexibility, rhythms and elegance.

“These equipment serves as a platform for Gymnasts to show their strength, agility and it reflects the sports evolution in safety and performance.

“It helps to achieve the highest score across various events, with the athletes earning the highest score. This will help to highlight gymnastics’ relentless pursuit of excellence,”he said.

“Stakeholders should support in providing equipment to meet international standards.

“There is a need for the upgrading of the equipment for the athletes to meet global standards.

“We are raising podium-finish Gymnasts for the Olympics and Nigeria will be presenting many gymnasts at the Olympics.

“There are resource persons who have been working assiduously behind the scene towards the preparation and participation for podium success, ” he said.

He said he has confidence in the capabilities of the Nigerian team to make a meaningful impact when it is upgraded.

Asuquo said lack of standards equipment within the gymnastics federation was the major challenge confronting the sector, hence the need for upgrading them
