By Oluwole Francis

Executive director commonwealth handball, chairman kogi state, niger Delta handball chairman Jubril Sheidu in an exclusive interview, appreciate God for the success recorded at the north-central handball league.

Jubril said this at the just concluded North Central handball league.

” We give glory to God for the successful of the league. We did not encounter any casualties at all throughout the league period,  Our aim as been achieved because we plan to train and produce  products for the energy oil handball league stated for October and the aim is to see how many teams are going to participate and with what we have seen so far, we see that the teams are very vibrant and ready for the league and we are very sure retaining our championship being the defending champion”.

When ask about his expectations in the next edition of the competition, he said ” the next edition should be more vibrant than what we have seen here because we have to improve from the following years “.

“Sport is what we have to encourage people. Whatever Laurel they have one is a motivation to the teams. We pray and wish God help us”.

On his feeling  about the level of participation, he said he is very satisfied.

” We have 16 teams and 13 teams attended this tournament which makes it fantastic. Before we can bring this lucrative teams to the national level, we have to sustain the local league first.

Getting them young will help us to go for the best players for the national teams, we have to start from here to be able to get them at all category’s”.

Furthermore, speaking on why is focus remained the north central unit on his mind, which he responded in the affirmative  “I am planning to contest for the president of the Nigeria handball federation in the next election” He said.

“what I am doing in the North central is to showcase what will happen if I become the president of the handball federation of Nigeria”.

That is what and how I will walk across the country. if you could remember that our national handball team went to Cameroon recently and they performance was too bad.

We have thrown away grassroot development, we have thrown away local talent. if we concentrate on the local contents it becomes useful for the national team and it becomes a build-up for them to become international players. so if I become the president of the handball federation of Nigeria, these are what we will witness in the handball federation sector”. Jubril said.

He however open up onn how he has been able to attract sponsors for the league, ” we are usyally do a great job on that you can imagine the volume of  people that turn out for this occasion. We went to so many places, we kneel down and prostrate to let them know how our youth are ready and restless.

How do I erase that from them the restiveness in then.

They have been here for 8 days, even if they are having criminal thoughts in their minds and we can follow them up with another competition such as this I’m very sure they will change their mind. we went to the suntrust and told them to please come and see what we are using the money they gave us to do for.

And as a result of that they are ready to sponsor us again. As a matter of fact I had a statement from them that they are ready to sponsor a better tournament more than this,  government are removing their hand from sponsoring sports in Nigeria.

Until private sectors, stakeholders and individuals take charge of sport in Nigeria before sport can come back to normal in the country, take football for example in Nigeria, you realise that is going down gradually we hardly qualify for under 17 or 23 competitions anymore. 99.9% federation in Nigeria are relying on government fund and that is why they cannot go anywhere in the country.

Most sports administrators in Nigeria are greedy because they are after the government money and  their interest are no longer the  players and now officials are always more than players” Jubril concluded.
