By Olayinka Elebute

Earlier in the week as part of the event for the ten years celebration of Inside Nollywood, a masterclass tagged Sports Meet Audiovisual Nollywood with the theme: Making of Sport  themed short films and Docu-film took place with Mr. Remi Ogunpitan as the lead Master Class Facilitator.

Followed by a Roundtable panel conversation moderated by Olusola Rogers with panelist made up of Godfather Emmanuel Babayaro former Nigeria International, Regina Dokpesi from Africa Independent Television (AIT) Edafe Mathew of Elegbete TV and femi Abioye  who shared various experiences on the opportunities available to storytelling to preserves the exploits of our sporting hero’s and proffer ways to rewrite the challenges faced by the producers.
On his part the converner of Indigenous Sports Femi Abioye, has revealed the real reason he decided to marry sports with Nollywood
Speaking with during the Inside Nollywood International Film Festival and Awards in Abuja, Abioye said that Nollywood is our version of Hollywood and he has discovered that most Nollywood producers don’t see content in sport so they don’t give their audience any sporting background stories in the films.
“Most of our producers don’t see the value in just giving sport a scene in their films and the reason I am trying to let them see the value in bringing sports into drama and most of us remember Things Fall Apart writing by Late Chinua Achebe and you saw the plot where local wrestling was infuse into the scene and everyone love Okonkwo the role played by Nollywood legend Pete Edechie and that scene lingers in the mind of the audience, that’s what exactly what we want to achieve with Indigenous Sports he said.
Also speaking CEO Elegbete TV Edafe Eseoghene, believes the meeting point is a future to sports development, he has this to say.”
‘It was a brilliant idea, very, very brilliant idea, but the execution was not as  brilliant as the idea but with over time it can come out good’, he said
He also want the organiser Inside Nollywood International Film Festival and Awards with De’ Kaizen to explore,
“The meeting, that’s the point meeting point sports especially football and movies the thing that is missing in our football today is the media, I am not talking about media as journalist reporting matches they still have done  that well, i am talking about the media that put the matches, players, the actors in beautiful colors the way a film is shot is different from how a report is shot so, if we continue this way in the next five years once Nollywood and sports, football meet well especially the traditional sports they will be well known, he continue.
“i will not be surprised maybe one day we will wake up to see a Nollywood movie like we have the ORISA and the rest and the Anikulapo Kuti and where we have these traditional sports and they will be part of the stories, it’s a great idea it’s just that the events itself could have been properly be organized in a better place but their is nothing negative about it it’s a beautiful idea and I hope it continues over the next five years it will become one of the best events like the headies and other awards in the Future, Edafe concluded.
Also speaking, former Nigeria international football player Emmanuel Babayaro, also known as the god father in the movie Industry praised the orgarniser and  De’Kaizern for coming together to consider sports in Nollywood.
According to him, “The history of sport development can never be written without the name Kunle Soname the man came and change the face of sports with the best of facility and how he has also transformed even his club Remo Stars and a lot of philanthropic works he has been doing especially within the sporting vicinity.
You can take it away from him I means what he has done for humanity and Nigeria, a general and a very big thank you for the organiser Inside Nollywood International awards and De Kaizen as well in their partnership to put these together,  Kunle Soname will be very grateful for these  and on his behalf I am grateful for the awards he said.
