Int’l Friendly : Super Eagles Set To Revenge Against Cameroon

Super Eagles are bracing for a revenge of last Friday 1-0 defeat by Cameroon when both teams clash again on today at the Weiner Neustadt Stadium in Vienna, Austria.

The return match scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 2021 promises to be even more decisive with a Nigerian selection which will necessarily try to correct its flaws and do justice to its status.

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr explained to media that the Super Eagles’ loss to Cameroon is not important, but the team has performed well overall.

For Tuesday’s game, the manager has indicated that William Troost-Ekong and Jamilu Collins will not play the second game due to injuries.

Troost-Ekong was replaced by Valentine Ozonwafor while Collins played completed the game.

Rohr said with two of his defenders possible no longer available for selection, he will be playing three defenders in today’s game.

He told ESPN that it will be difficult to manage the situation without both players.

“Unfortunately, we lost two players to injury, which will make it difficult for the second game in the defence because Troost- Ekong and Collins are out, they cannot play.

“So, we have to manage the difficult situation.

‘But it’s also an opportunity to play with three defenders only and to change the system to try something different, that’s why we are happy to play the second game.”

Ekong has left the team’s training camp in Vienna, Austria, so as to have further checks on the injury that has ruled him out of tomorrow’s rematch against Cameroon.

Eagles Media announced Ekong’s departure, while also disclosing that Ujpest FC of Hungary midfielder Vincent Onovo has joined up with the squad in Austria.

Both teams are using the matches to prepare for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, which resume in September.
