Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) has directed officials of its Kaduna State chapter to tip Dr. Muhammad Sani Bello, the current Financial Controller for ECOWAS Institutions for the 2019 governorship in the state.
Announcing the decision in Kaduna at the end of its zonal consultative meeting on Tuesday, the group’s Coordinator, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, said the move became necessary in view of the glaring failure of the Nasir el-Rufai government to live up to its campaign promises.
The group highlighted a number of sectors in which it said el-Rufai has failed to make any meaningful improvement.
The sectors, according to Suleiman, include education, youth and rural development.
“After assessing the situation, NEN has come to the inevitable conclusion that Kaduna needs a change of leadership to save it from the present stagnation, ” Suleiman said.
He said after further careful assessment of likely replacements, the group arrived at Dr Bello, the Mainan Zazzau whom it said, is amply qualified to lead the state out of its present decay.
“Apart from possessing an impressive CV, Bello also has a record for tolerance, humility, foresight coupled with proven integrity, honesty and experience,” Suleiman emphasized.
“I am sure even a blind man would be impressed by Bello’s CV part of which shows he has been holding the office of the Financial Controller of ECOWAS Institutions at the Economic Community of West African States – ECOWAS for the last 2 years 8 months.
“Before his current appointment, he was Dean of the Faculty of Social & Management Sciences in the Kaduna State University from 2012 – 2014.
“He served as both the academic and administrative head of the Faculty.
“Earlier, Bello had been a Commissioner in the Kaduna State Ministry of Science & Technology between 2007 and 2010.
“By that appointment, he was Chief Executive of the Ministry and Member, Kaduna State Executive Council.
“He was also a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 2001 to 2007. With his adventure in active politics, he was entrusted with the post of the Director General, Shekarau for Nigeria from December 2010 to December 2011 and also became Manager, 2011 ANPP Presidential Candidate Campaign Organisation.
“During the Second Republic politics, he served as electoral poling agent for the Great Nigeria Peoples Party (GNPP). In 1979, he experimented with the Civil Rights and Social Action group where he worked to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of general elections, leading to transition from military to civilian rule in Nigeria
“Over the course of time, Bello became known for his concerns for Civil Rights and Social Action, economic empowerment, education development, human rights and politics.
‘His Doctoral Dissertation in 2005 was on Income Smoothing & the Quality of Earnings among Nigerian Banks; a pioneer effort aimed at finding earnings quality of Nigerian banks.
“Some of his well-known skills include, though not limited to: Banking, Academics and Politics; Business Strategy; Change Management; Management Consulting; Risk Management; Negotiation; Business Planning and Financial Analysis.
“Bello is also a master of Team Management; Investments; Team Leadership; New Business Development; Project Management and Project Finance.
‘Bello is an Alumnus, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University & Graduate School, Washington DC 2011; and the Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria where he became a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Accounting and Finance in 1988.
“In his university days, Bello participated actively in several campus activities and societies including: Nigerian Universities Accounting Students’ Association (NUASA) and the Muslim Students Society (MSS).
“He is also a member of such groups as the Abuja Business Club – Nigeria | West Africa; TAKAFUL; ABU ALUMNI; Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE); Harvard Business Review,” Suleiman said.
