Atlas Lioness of Morocco has announced their new status a one the emerging power house in Africa women football as the pulled off one of the most brilliant upset against continent’s powerhouse Cameroon with 1-0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses on Thursday during the ongoing Aisha Buhari Cup at the newly built Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Moroccan Women which had the presence of goalkeeper Errmichi Khadija in goal who stood against the Lioness from Cameroon in the early minute of the game ensured the Moroccans remained in the game.
The closest the Cameroonians came were shots from Rose Bella and Gabrielle Onguene’s brilliant effort which came off the crossbar for Cameroon but the clinical Moroccan defence forced a goalless draw at half time.
Coming into the game in the early minutes of the second half saw Reynald Pedros’ side made the best of their golden opportunity when Fatima Tagnaout got on the end of a fine counterattack to grab the 78th minute to stun the lioness from Cameroon, and to announce the arrival of a new angles on the African continent and in a city that adores women football.
Cameroon however will have to redeem their pride when they meet Ghana in their final game of the invitational on Monday.
