Nigeria Tennis Federation Caretaker Chairman, Dayo Akindoju has disclosed in an exclusive Interview with Gongnews.net that his plans is to take the Nigeria Tennis to the international standard by producing Gold and Sliver badge officials.
The Caretaker chairman, who describe his first four years as a wonderful year. “Firstly, I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to be the president of one of the best federation. In the past which of cause is the first tenure with my strong board, there are four areas in Nigeria Tennis that we have focus on, this areas are Officiating, Coaching, Players development and also Facility development.
This are what we as a board plan to work on and we did very well, I want to assume we have done so fantastic in three areas out of the four areas in Tennis in the last four years, in the area of officiating, we have ensure that a lot of Nigerians got certified as Officiating with the ITF standard.
We achieve that by ensuring we host such schools (ITF) in Abuja and in Lagos, we had one as well. So, we have leave one and about 20 officials we had in 2017 and today, I can tell you we have 120 official at different levels of Officiating and we are able to expose them not just to handle local tournaments or Nigerian base tournament alone.
A lot of them traveled even up to the Grandslam level to officiate, some in the ATP tennis matches, the Davis cup and even the fed cup to Officiate, in 2020, we are slated for the Wimbledon were we are suppose to have six Nigeria officials but that didn’t happen because of the covid-19”
“We have done a lot of improvement and we are going to continue on that part. Infact, we had level two school schedule for March last year 2020 but all the plans were aborted by covid.
We would had our official in level one promoted to level two which means the tournament that we host are on a good standard, unlike in the past we use to bring officials from Kenya, South Africa and Egypt because we don’t have Gold and silver officials even in Nigeria till now, But by the grace of God, Nigeria will soon have Good and Silver badge officials very soon”. The Caretaker Chairman assured.
