The Northern block plan to present a solid and united Northern Bloc that will wrestle the leadership of the NFF from the South back to the region has crashed as the two main camps headed by Ibrahim Gusau and Shehu Dikko can still not see eye-to-eye.
As the NFF Elective Congress is presently constituted, the North can boast of 24 delegates, more than half of the Congress.
However, as was the case at the 2018 Elections in Katsina, the Northern votes will again be split with Gusau boasting of 14 of these delegates by the last count.
The main implication of this is that both camps will have to forge alliances across the River Niger for their men to be elected.
If there were any hopes that this regional bloc could present a united front for the forthcoming polls, that was dashed after delegates from the North Central, which Shehu Dikko and close ally Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’ are believed to control, went ahead to purchase nomination forms for the various positions.
FCT FA Chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed will run for the NFF presidency, Benue FA Chairperson Margaret Icheen has her eyes on a position on the NFF Executive Committee, so too Kwara FA Chairman Idris Abdullahi Musa aka ‘Turaya’.
Already there are long-standing, deep-seated animosities between Gusau, Shehu Dikko and ‘Fresh’.
The bad blood between Gusau and his one-time close ally ‘Fresh’ has its genesis from the Katsina Elections four years ago, when it was believed that the Zamfara FA Chairman did everything to kick out ‘Fresh’ from the Executive Committee.
Gusau has never got on well with Shehu Dikko so much so that at a time outgoing NFF President Amaju Pinnick tried to reconcile the two men.
Shehu Dikko has often questioned Gusau’s competence and the Chairman of Chairmen has taken this to heart.
And the rivalry between the two Northern men has been further fueled by the fact that they are all aiming for the NFF presidency now.
It is also interesting to report that the Shehu Dikko camp, which has the full blessings of Pinnick, has openly boasted it has incriminating evidence to disqualify Gusau.
The Gusau camp has also said it has in its possession what will kill off Shehu Dikko’s Presidential dream once and for all.
