Captain Gafar Kareem’s team, the Junior Yellow Greens, gave the best account of themselves against Kenya in a thrilling game that went down to the wire at the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, Africa Qualifiers in Lagos.
After losing two games ,the Nigerian U19 Men’s Cricket team’s new target was remaining in Division 1, a position for the top 3 finishers out of the six African countries participating.
Nigeria started well and was in control until rain halted play at 29.1 overs. Before the suspension of play. Before the game was delayed, Kenya scored 85 runs for a loss of 5 wickets. After the rain, the cricket standard rule was applied, and the overs were shortened to 26 overs for Nigeria to bat. The new target for Nigeria was 98 runs to win.
Captain Gafar played not out with an individual score of 20 runs, while Abdullahi, Peculiar, and Boniface contributed 18,15, and 10 runs. Nigerias total was 93 runs at 26 overs and the lost just by 4 runs.
Kenya, with 3 victories, is set up to drag the top spot against Tanzania in another epic match to decide group leaders on Wednesday.
