Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh believes Wilfred Ndidi is the ideal candidate to succeed William Troost-Ekong as the team’s captain. According to Oliseh, Ndidi has already earned the respect of his teammates and is seen as a leader on and off the pitch.

Oliseh praised Ndidi, saying, “At the moment, I think nobody doubts the respect the players have for Ndidi. And he’s a player that plays every game.” The former Nigerian coach noted that Ndidi’s consistent performances and leadership qualities make him an ideal candidate for the role.

Oliseh emphasized that being a good captain requires more than just wearing the armband. “Whoever is eventually named captain should show quality leadership,” he said. “It takes more than waiting for instructions from the Nigeria Football Federation.”

The Super Eagles are set to face a tough challenge in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they are drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania. With the tournament just around the corner, the team’s leadership will play a crucial role in their success.
