Ondo State female football team on Sunday advance to the finals after the team defeated Cross River State 2-1 to qualify for the finals of the event.
The match played at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium’s training pitch in Uyo guarantee the state a medal in the female football.
Delta State defeated Abia State 5-2 to also qualify for the final of the event.
The final matches will be played on Monday.
Speaking after her team victory Ondo State team coach Chinasa Ihelewere said the girls were just playing their first competitive match at the event after being scouted across the 18 local government areas of the state.
According to her, “These girls were determined to move forward so that is what worked for us. We are assuring the state that we are here gunning for gold after getting to this stage,” she said.
Meanwhile in Basketball, Ondo State male team are in the Semi-final stage after defeating Akwa Ibom 60-53 points.
In the Handball male event, Team Delta defeated Ondo State team 23-17 for Delta to advance to the final, while Ondo State will play the third place tie.
In the male Volleyball event, Ondo State defeated Abia States 3-0 to set up final Bayelsa State at the on going Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo.
