PARA POWERLIFTING: OKPALA TARGETS GOLD AT 2020 PARALYMPICS

Nigeria Para Powerlifter, Pauline Okpala is aiming to win gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics after setting a new Africa Record in the women’s up to 73kg lifting 132kg at the 2020 World Para Powerlifting Cup in Abuja which also serves as the Paralympics qualifiers in Japan.

Okpala said that she is training hard to set a World Record at her maiden Paralympics.

She said, “The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will be my first and I am going all out to win gold. I have been training so hard after the 2019 International Championships in Lagos and I prayed to God that I want to set a new World Record in Japan.

Okpala revealed that determination got her going despite the challenges becoming a champion.

The 2018 National Sports Festival Champion said, “When all hope was lost, I look unto God to show me the way and before I knew it, I was introduced to Para Powerlifting. Determination and hard work has kept me going despite the challenges I encounter in my day to day life.

 

Qualifying for the Paralympics has given me hope and my dreams of becoming a recognised athlete is about to become reality” she said.
