Plateau contingent arrived University of Ilorin, Kwara state, venue of the 2021 National Youth Games in the early hours of Thursday, 14th Oct 2021.
The event could not hold last year due to the outbreak of the covid-19.
About 5000 athletes from across the 36 states and the FCT, converged on Unilorin to fight for a place on the medals table.
Plateau assembled 59 athletes in 16 out of the 37 sports earmarked for this year’s NYG, to contest for honours.
The 16 sports includes Athletics, Badminton, Chess, Cycling, Gymnastics, Golf, Judo and Karate.
Others are Scrabble, Squash, Teakwondo, Tennis, Kokowa, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Kunfu.
The Games which was preceded by accreditation and screening of athletes for possible overage, saw 12 of our athletes fell the screening
Out of these 12, three are from Golf, two each from Athletics, kokowa and kungfu, while Scrabble, Chess and Cycling has one athlete each that were screened.
Although the state has spreads appealed some of the decisions of the screening committee with the hope that the committee will reconsider its decision from the available evidences.
Events in Gymnastic has since commenced today and almost all the sports will join the fray tomorrow.
The state athletes are camped at the Kwara state Polytechnic as they look forward to improving our last performance of 10th position with 7 gold, 4 bronze and 5 silver in 2019.
