Plateau State Football Association Revives The Dead Talents Unearthing Igbo League Football Tournament In Jos

In their tireless efforts in making sure that the youths on the Plateau are positively engaged, hence, promoting the peace currently been enjoyed on the Plateau which will at the long run make the youths to fulfill their dreams of going professional by signing very good contracts, the Plateau State Football Association on Monday received the once upon a time real organizers of the much followed and loved Igbo League, played by the Igbos in the State.

In his remark yesterday, the Chairman of Plateau State Football Association, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, said: “I will want all and sundry under my leadership to understand the power football has in development, peace promotion, economic empowerment, among others.”

“This Igbo League has produced alot of players like Mikel John Obi, Obinna Usofor, Chinedu Efugh, Daniel Njoku, among many others like that. Disagreements should not be entertained if this league should still keep on playing its own positive part in the State. The PFA has to take the bull by its horns when its looking as if the misunderstanding and disagreement amongst the organizers of this competition seems unending for more than a decade now which had deprived many Igbo youths from exhibiting their God given talents. I will use my influence to call on some well to do Igbos on the Plateau to help sponsor this tournament.”

The founding father of the Igbo League in the early 1980s, Alfor Umeh, says: “I thank the Chairman of the PFA, Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande for his prompt response and intervention for the coming back of the league which was stopped for almost 15 years. This league has taken alot of families from poverty to becoming millionaires through their children’s success in football.”

In his own words, the 1st Vice Chairman of Plateau State Football Association, Ezra Godit, said: “Coaches and club owners don’t be afraid, count yourselves lucky as we will help organize this tournament henceforth and every “I”will be dotted and every “ts” will be crossed.”

The league, which will kickoff this June, will see a collection of Igbo players that have played for Mighty Jets FC form a team of which the PFA Chairman has promised to pay for their registration.

It would be recalled that Hon. Dr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande promoted Mighty Jets FC to the Nigeria club elite division when he was the Chairman of the club then in 2004.
