Super Falcons of Nigeria...playing for the nation on credit

PMB orders intervention on Falcons’ allowances imbroglio

President Muhammadu Buhari…shocked at how heroines were treated

*VeePee asked to coordinate the FG intervention

*Buhari embarrassed at how team were treated

Afterall, relief seems will be arriving from the desk of the Commander-In-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari. This may out an end within the next 24 hours to the over one week impasse between the Super Falcons and the bankrupt Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The team by our own calculation (not official) is owed $869,800 which is about N418m (just a million less the dreaded 419 figure). An embarrassed President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend called for detailed briefing. He was not happy about how the heroines were treated.

First, he gave an order that the Super Falcons should remain at their Agura Hotel. Two, that they should be made comfortable. Three, that an immediate plan be put in place to pay all those affected.

President Buhari demanded an explanation from the office of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and was given the instructions. His office may be the conduit to effect the payment in view of the proceedings’ said our source.

The Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 1-0 on the 3rd December courtesy of the lone strike from Desire Oparanozie to clinch their 8th title in 10 editions of the continental women football showpiece. This makes the team the biggest football property in the country today.

“The Presidency is very embarrassed by the development and so it is expected that anytime from Tuesday, the players will be fully paid. They did well by winning the trophy for Nigeria and it is unfair to treat them this way,” our source quoted the soft spoken President.

With the Presidential intervention, the question of the sack on the officials was raised, the source said, “let anybody go and sack them and let us wait to see the implication. By this intervention, the team may be hosted soon and that will place the issues in proper perspectives.

Each player is to earn $25,400. The head coach, Florence Omagbemi, is to earn $50,800 since she supposed to get twice of what the players earn. The assistant coaches are to each collect $33,600. The team has two assistant coaches in Perpetua Nkwocha and Ann Chiejine while Bala Muhammed is the goalkeepers’ trainer. Each backroom staff is to earn $33,600.

The team has a medical doctor, physiotherapist, media officer, team secretary and a coordinator. The curator gets half of what the backroom staff members earn, which is $16,800.

Meanwhile, the NFF on Sunday (yesterday) was quoted to have directed the Agura hotel management to eject all the officials of the team. The public outcry on the way the team was treated made it very difficult for the players to be touched.
