Pro Wrestling League: Adekuoroye avenges Olympics loss by defeating Mattsson

Nigeria’s most celebrated wrestler, Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye, took her pound of flesh on highly rated Swedish, Sofia Mattsson, in the 53kg women category by defeating her by 6-1 point in the Pro Wrestling League season II in India.

The 2016 Olympic Bronze medallist, Sofia fail to counter techniques of the Nigerian wrestler who took a 4-0 lead at the end of the opening round.

Odunayo further astonished Sofia in the second round by bagging two more points, taking her down once again to win 6-1 in what turned out to be another upset of the day.

The Punjab Royals wrestler after her bout did her usually routine dancing and singing to God for making her excel at the league.

It is worthy to note that the Indian wrestling fans have tagged Adekuoroye to be the dancing queen of the mat.

athlete of the tie alongside Sandeep Tomar for their outstanding performances.

Adekuoroye is the only athlete that have not been defeated since the inauguration of the Pro Wrestling League which began in 2015.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Tomar stunned Rio Olympics champion Vladimir Khinchegashvili to help Haryana Hammers defeat Punjab Royals 5-2 and register their fifth straight win in the Pro Wrestling League season II to top the table.

With this win, Haryana Hammers remained unbeaten in the group stage and will now clash with fourth placed Jaipur Ninjas in the first semi-final tomorrow.

Punjab, meanwhile, will face Mumbai Maharathis in the second semi-final.
