Prof. Na’Allah: Enigma with a giant’s stride swelling Malete

I flew to Ilorin on board one of the local carriers in the country. As soon as I boarded I instantly felt stupid for having been nervous through out the almost three-quarter of an hour trip. Just finished reading details of the flight that consumed some young Latin American football team. The thought stubbornly hooked up to me.

Inside the flight, there was only one non-Nigerian on board yet the other passengers (some Igbos, Hausas and others, but mostly Yorubas) were very friendly.

The in-flight entertainment was good, which forced me to get a little sleep. Working as an online reporter has its own unique stress and work time. When the world around us are asleep, that is when we are at work churning out reports before our readers will start to wake to read the reports.

Nonetheless we arrived in Ilorin. It was relatively cold weather and just before I landed, the driver from my hosts was on ground to pick me up. Excellent was a mark I gave the institution’s protocol team, headed by Mr. Hakeem Olohunmata. There was no pressure to start waiting long or calling again. And straight to Malete we drove past the ancient town of Ilorin.

Collins Ajibola, Backyard TalkMy arrival at the school premises gave me an insight of the people I was coming to meet and interview. When I arrived, I noted that nearly everything inside the Kwara State University, KWASU, Malete is the complete opposite of how things are done in other Universities I have visited, except I will say for my Alma-mata, the great University of Ilorin.

KWASU has extremely friendly staffers and students, whose first gift to announce this is a different environment is smiling. They have a very and tremendous quality to offer.

While walking to the office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, several employees and students showered me with greetings and warm welcome with great smiles. Their actions were to me of genuineness and not pretence.

KWASU is a surprising institution of global standard. The walkways and lecture halls are packed with students and staff in colorful clothing, high discipline of adorning their identity cards fort easy identification.

But the most surprising and delightful thing of all was the passion, humility and avid commitment of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah. His fanatic passion to the overall development of the institution is unparalleled. He can hardly turn his head to the side and you will not feel he is dreaming of the pet project he was mandated to deliver. His appointment as the pioneer VC of the institution was in no doubt a happy one for all.

Those who know Prof. Na’Allah very well, will describe him as a perfect example of a silent achiever, a fair but firm leader, a veritable team player and a visionary team leader, a listening and emphatic leader who cannot stand seeing anybody treated unjustly.

My exclusive interview with Prof. Na’Allah and his giant strides since assuming office as the Vice Chancellor of the institution leading the university to becoming an outstanding university with a proud heritage and a visionary outlook on the future, the Registrar, Heads of Colleges, Lecturers and students will be coming on our INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK. For now, I must say the visit to KWASU was worth the adventure. My conclusion, if you want to see a global institution on the road to the future, don’t go on google search, you won’t find. Rather, take a trip to KWASU.
