Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens 2023 :Nigeria succumbs to South Africa


Nigeria’s men Senior National Rugby team, Black Stallions on Sunday lost to Blitzboks of South Africa 0-27 in the quarter final stage on Day Two of the paramount garments Rugby Africa Men’s sevens 2023 at the ongoing Olympic games qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe.

reports that South Africa’s Blitzboks defeated Nigeria’s Black Stallion by 27-0 in the quarter finals to book their place in the semifinals.

In the match played, at the Harare Sports Club in Harare,Zimbabwe on Sunday, Nigeria struggled hard against South Africa team in which South Africa prove supremacy than the Nigeria team.

Blitzboks capitalised on Stallions mistakes from earlier in the day to score quick tries and stay out of touching distance, 15-0.

After the break, Nigeria continued to leak tries through the middle as their efforts was not good enough to convert their scoring chances to a goal.

The South Africa rally up to finish the game with a 27-0 victory against Nigeria.

In their previous match, The Black Stallions played in pool B with Kenya,Namibia and Zambia.

The Black Stallions struggled hard in their first two matches before finding their rhythm against Namibia,to sealed a place in the quarter final stage of the competition with Blitzboks of South Africa on Saturday.

Nigeria lost its first match of the qualifiers to one of the best Rugby playing nations in Africa, Shujas of Kenya by 34-10.

The team made efforts to work on their shortcomings in the second match against Zambia, but it was not enough as they crumbled 38-12 .

In the last Pools B match against Namibia ,it was an end to end game as the Black Stallions gave it all to ensure a 22-19 victory against the Namibia to seal its place in the quarter final with the South Africa.

Others results from the quarterfinals match,As expected,the defending Champion, Uganda beat Zambia 29-15 victory as Uganda bounced back from a challenging Day One.

Uganda will play against South Africa in the Cup Semifinals later in the day.

Twelve teams are participating; Uganda , Zimbabwe ( host), Kenya,Zambia, Madagascar, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Namibia, South Africa, Algeria,Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

Whoever emerges victorious from the two-day , tournament will take their place in Paris 2024 alongside the already qualified men’s teams of France, New Zealand, Argentina, Fiji, Australia, Uruguay, Ireland and USA.

the Rugby Africa Men’s sevens 2023 started on Saturday and ends Sept. 17.
