Stakeholder Seeks Support For Para-Soccer

Umar Adoro, Technical Director of Para Soccer has called on governments, sport loving Nigerians to give financial support to the sport so as to move it to the global level.

Adoro made the appeal at the ongoing second edition of the Para-Soccer games on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that the event is aimed at strengthening the game and to create chances for the selection of capable hands within the localities.

“Para-Soccer may not be well known by Nigerians as one of the most important games in the world except when it is exposed by engaging those at the rural areas to the game.

“Hence, the need to give it full support by the government at all levels, public individuals and sport stakeholders to elevate the game to the international levels, ” he said.

Adoro gave assurance that the organisers would not give up on their expectations to ensure that the game is given greater attention.

“We need this support to help Para-Soccer game to move forward but unfortunately, the hardships faced by the country has affected the games.

“We, therefore, appeal to the government, private sector, as well as individuals and other organisations to help to project this sport to the next level.

“We have been trying to reach out to those we feel can be of help technically, financially and even in terms of advice but to no avail.

“It is only through such support that Para soccer could thrive in the country, to also help us to scout for the talent in the sector,” he said.

He, however, decried the failure and low responses by some of the states in area of registration for the second edition of Para-Sports Games in Abuja.

Adoro said that only 17 states responded after invitation had been given out by the Federation.

“Out of the registered 17 states, only nine are on ground participating in the Para-soccer competition. They are Kwara, Lagos, FCT Abuja, Bauchi ,Kano,Sokoto, Kaduna, Jigawa and Plateau,”he said.

Adoro said that such failure may have resulted from the lack of state’s approval to the team in the states.

The games which started on Dec.9 will end on (today) Dec. 12
