Tennis: Marylove Edwards joins IMG Academy

Marylove Edwards…heads to Florida to improve her tennis

Nigerian junior female tennis champion, Marylove Edwards, is on the verge of giving her career a tonic as plans have been concluded to enrol her into the world’s top most tennis schools, IMG Academy Tennis Training in Florida, USA, to enable her master the game more.

The 11-year old player who recently emerged third at the 2016 ITF/CAT 12 & Under Talent Identification Programme in Morocco said that tennis has been what she has a deep passion for since she was four. Before her management company, Temple Management, decided to take her to tennis school in Florida, the Edo State-born champion won last year’s U-14 CBN Junior Tennis championship and the NNPC Junior Tennis Masters.

Alongside Barakat Quadri, Marylove Edwards saw off Anna Lumengo and Manuella Eloundou of Cameroun 6-3, 6-4 to win the 2016 ITF/CAT West and Central Africa Junior championships held in Abuja U-14 girl’s category.

Speaking on the decision to take the younger star to a tennis school in Lagos recently, the Sports Director of Temple Management, Mr Koye Sowemimo, said that they saw that the young star is a talent hence decided to help her harness the talent. “We have decided to harness the talent embedded in Marylove Edwards that is why we had to enrol her into the school of tennis where the likes of Serena Williams and others graduated from. The way and courage she takes on opponents irrespective of their age is simply amazing and that is why we have decided to make her known in the field globally,” he said.
