Top Clubs Shine As The South South Female Cricket League Begins

Drama and emotions filled the air as 2024 Female Cricket League action resumed on Friday, with Pathfinders, Smashers, Idia Royals, and the Amazons putting on strong performances in Benin and Port Harcourt Centres.

Adolor Amazons defeated Delta Force by 6 runs on Benin’s Iyoba cricket pitch. In the Benin Zone’s second game, Ekpoma Supernovas scored 66/10, while Idia Royals cruised to a 67/3 victory. Idia won by seven wickets. Shola Adekunle was chosen Player of the Match after taking two wickets to help Idia Royals win.

The Port Harcourt Centre witnessed further surprises and dramatic displays when Pathfinders defeated Dagazon by 228 runs. Pathfinders scored a whooping 267 runs and Dazagon’s chase was strangled to only 39 runs and all out (39/10). Uwana Emmanuel hit 86 runs to win the Player of the March award.

National team captain, Blessing Etim’s club, Smashers, also made a huge score of 169/3 as Rangers chase ended at 51/10. Smashers won by 118 runs as Faith Okpara took 5 wickets to be crowned Player of the Match.

More action continues on the weekend for the girls who pride themselves on playing the first and biggest female cricket league in West Africa.

The league brought into the limelight Nigeria’s female stars such as Salome Sunday, Piety Lucky, Lillian Udeh, and many others. The tournament sponsors, PET Foundation says they are proud to give the girls opportunities to shine.
