Top Guns Sail Through As Vemp Tennis Enters Quarter-finals

.Iloputa is first major casualty

Fouth edition of the Vemp National Tennis Open Championship reaches an exciting stage Thursday as the top guns square up one another in the quarterfinals of the competition.
Regretably, fresh graduate Iloputa Okechukwu became the first major casualty after the second round matches as he was bundled out by Kushmo Usman who won in the rubber at 6/2, 6/7, 6/1 in a game that stretched almost 3 hours due to the hues and cries by Iloputa for medicals and toilet breaks.

Meanwhile, former champion, Henry Atseye defeated Emmanuel Micheal 6/3, 6/4, Otu Thomas beat Abua Canice 6/2 6/1 while another top player Nonso Madueke romped over Ganiyu Mubarak 6/1 6/0.
Others in the quarterfinals of the men’s singles are top seeds Oparaji Uche who humbled Ajang Sylvanus Joel 6/4 6/1 and teenager David Ekpeyong who emerged winner at the West Africa J4 in Cote’ d’Ivoire last week 6/3 6/4.

Ekpeyong later said in a post match chat that he hoped to go far in the tourney God willing as he would put in his best.
And in the female category, top seed Edwards Marylove defeated Tenu Michael Mary 6/0 6/2 while second seed Aanu Aiyegbusi dumed out Ogunjobi Success 6/3 6/0.

Other qualifiers are Udokwelu Stella who overpowered Salami Khadijat, Mohammed Khadijat who beat old hand Omotayo Blessing and Akingbade Ronke who emerged winner against Maxwell Timipre
