Wheelchair Tennis African Qualification: NTF Applauded Players For Good Conduct

 

The President of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) Ifedayo Akindoju on Sunday has shower praises on the athletes for their good conduct at the just concluded 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair tennis African qualification in Abuja.

Akindoju said this at the closing ceremony of the 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup wheelchair tennis African qualification.Which started on Feb. 7 ended today (Feb.11) at the Tennis Centre, of Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

 

According to him ,ten countries participated which include;
Nigeria ( host) ,Egypt , Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius ,Morocco, Rwanda,South Africa and Tanzania.

The skills displayed by the players at the competition showed a drastic improvement when compared to 2023 edition.

“ I applauded the performance and conducts of players. I want to appreciate the players that made us proud all through the competition .

“As a federation we are happy with the events that started few days ago and ended today.

“ I also appreciate all stakeholders that made this events a successful ,the International Tennis Federation (ITF) representative, Ambassador from different countries ,coaches,Referees, Secretary of the Federation, Technical Director,” he said.

He said, the federation is happy with the manner in which the players conducted themselves. This is responsible for the hitch-free tournament.

“ The players are well behaved and I sincerely commend all of them for exhibiting good character all through,” he said.

He said that the Minister of Sport Development ,John Owan Enoh was around during the opening ceremony. But because of his tight scheduled he could not be around for this closing ceremony .

Akindoju said that the Minister
is very happy with the reports he as gotten so far especially the conduct of all the players.

“ I am personally happy with your conduct.

“ We did not see any rancour among players.it’s was peaceful all the way and that is the first thing in Sport and that’s what defined the levels of Sportsmanship.

“ Thank you once again players for your conducts and we look forward to having you compete more,” he said.

The president of NTF said that if given the opportunity to host the next edition in 2025, Nigeria will have a more successful outing than what we have now.

From the qualifiers , the Nigeria team players fought so hard. They showcased their prowess but their efforts could not earn them the only tickets needed for qualification.

“We are planning a new strategy of how to come up in wheelchair tennis. We have our eyes on the grands slams finals in the next edition,” he said.
