Yobe Stars Overpower Aspire FC In AITEO Cup

Okenzie Umenwa wonder goal in the 16th minute could not safe Anambra state AITEO Cup Champions, Aspire FC as they were thrashed by Yobe state representative Yobe Deserts Stars in round 64 game of 2021 AITEO Cup played at the FIFA goal project field, MKO Abiola stadium, Abuja on Sunday.

The rookies from Anambra were not discouraged when they conceded in the 12th minutes of the game due to defensive error which put the NNL side ahead to set them on a winning part, but Okenzie Umenwa  great strike ensure the Aspire team back on track from the earlier goal by Obinna Ukwu  to ensure it was all even in the first half.

The return of both team were now more of the pressure for the Aspire team, but Yobe Desert Stars league experience now set the two teams  apart, when the combination of the Stars team movement from the flanks with a low cross restore Yobe lead through Jonathan Jacobs in the. 53rd minutes of the game.

The inexperienced of the Aspire team was was now the team shortcomings as their several forays was thwarted by Yobe stars strong defense line.

Despite the pressure mounted by Aspire to restore parity, it was Yobe Stars that scored the third goal after a faulty defensive clearance gifted Dauda Martins his goal in the 71st minute.

The fairy tales of the Anambra champions ended the same way it ended 2019 when the lost to Kano Pillars.

Speaking after the game, coach Obinna Amar of Aspire FC, was full of praises for his young lads who he says they have added more knowledge to their game and that its only a game of football and its either you win or lose but the result is not bad for his team.

With these result, Yobe Stars  will face Lobi Stars of Makurdi in the  round 32 of AITEO Cup in kaduna.
