The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) has said arrangements have been concluded to host a successful 2024 Davis Cup Africa Group III in Nigeria next month.
Shammah Makpa,the Secretary General of Nigeria Tennis Federation ( NTF), in an interview with www.gongnews.net, said preparations are ongoing with steps taking in the right direction.
“We have been given this assignment. We have been preparing up to this moment and we will ensure that everything will go on smoothly for the successful hosting of the Davis Cup being the first time we are hosting the Group III Davis Cup.
“From the aspect of hosting, we will make sure that the venue is ready. The facilities are in good shapes and all the necessary events, competition equipment are ready, and we have been doing that and you can see that we are all going around to ensure we are taking the last laps of our preparations.

“Then for the aspects of participation, our teams are already in camp. But we are starting camp officially on Monday, July 1. With about six to eight players in the camp and from these players, it is only five players that are going to represent Nigeria during the Davis Cup proper. We are okay and we are doing well. We believe that everything will go on smoothly by the grace of God so we can have a hitch-free and successful Davis Cup Group III.
“David Ekpenyong and three other players already have the experienced of Davis Cup. Three of them were in the 2023 Group IV Davis Cup that we played and qualified Nigeria and we gained promotion to this Group III.
“If you check their performances during the last edition of Davies Cup Group IV that we played in Kigali, they did wonderfully well and win most of their matches. So, I believe that the players are already in good shapes and ready and will be able to make Nigeria proud.
“I am optimistic that Nigeria will host a good befitting tournament, with the support of the boards of Nigeria Tennis Federation, I believe that we (Nigeria) are going to have one of the very successful Davis Cup tournaments in recent times.
A total number of six Country are expected to participate in this year’s edition of Davis Cup Africa Group III Nigeria, (host) , Zimbawe,Namibia, Ivory Coast,Benin Republic and Ghana scheduled to take place from July 15th to July 21st in Abuja.
