Over 3000 runners are expected to vie for honours at the third edition of the Anti-Corruption Abuja half Marathon which will hold on December 19 at the Federal Capital Territory.
Coordinator, Jacob Onu said the sum of N1million each is at stake for over 21 Kilonmetre for male and female categories with the prize monies coming down to as much as N20, 000.
He said winners will also have their names enshrined in the annals of the competition hall of fame.
Onu said the registration which is free is still ongoing as 20,000 marathoners and 10,000 forerunners such as wheel chair, joggers and walkers will also be allowed to participate.
He explained that the rules of COVID-19 procedures will be strictly adhered to as runners are also expected to be in mask until when the race begins.”We are working with the National Control of Diseace Control NCDC and and Ministry of health to ensure that COVID-19 rules are observed.
Also speaking on the event, the Director of Grassroots Development in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are said the excercise is supported by Sports Ministry because it is in tandem anti crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari to fight corruption.
He said when the Coordinator brought the idea three years ago, the Sports Ministry supported it adding that very soon they will reap the benefit of the exercise.
Are urged other coporate bodies and individuals to support the race so that in future it will be an international one.
The General Manager of the race, Mr. Gabriel Okon said the 21.9 kilometre race will start and terminate at the Eagles Square.
He pointed out medical aides, mobile toiltes as well as bottled water will provided along the routes while all the officials will be in masks.
