On Saturday July 8, 2023, Harry Kwaghfan Yachi a reknowned Benue born retired top Football Referee and Sports Administrator led Benue State Sports stakeholders to bury late Peter Iornyagh Aguda in his country home at Mbanienge, Nanev Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
Late Peter Iornyagh Aguda was reported ill since March 2023, the illness that persisted till he died on the June 4, 2023. Until his death, late Peter Iornyagh Aguda was a board member (the policy making organ) of Lobi Stars Football Club Makurdi and the immediate past Chairman of APC at Mbagba/Mbakyan Council Ward of Kwande LGA.
Mr Harry Yachi who is the convener of the group took the initiative when he foresaw that help was not coming from anywhere to enhance a befitting burial for late Aguda who served football meritoriously all his life.
The Benue State Sports Stakeholders Forum mobilized resources and took all critical burial expenditure including cash support for the education and upkeep of the family of the deceased.
Highlights of the burial includes; a novelty football match at the ACC play ground Adikpo in honour of his remains that were lying in state, a procession from the field to his home and an all night wake service of songs.
Surprisingly, the immediate employers of the deceased Lobi Stars Football Club and the government of Benue State were all not represented in the burial, whether the club informed the Government or not was what I couldn’t establish as at the time of burial.
The family of the deceased appreciated the zeal, commitment and show of empathy by the Harry Yachi led stakeholders who stood in the gap to make ensure a hitch free burial.
