Benjamin Kumai Gugong, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kaduna State has assured of adequate funding for Kada Stars male and female hockey team ahead of their continental campaign.
Gugong made the remarks at the end of the just concluded Hockey Super League in Abuja which saw Kada Stars emerge victorious in both the male and female categories of the league.
The State Sports Commissioner told newsmen that the new governor of the was a sports loving man and would ensure that sports development was one of the main priority of his administration.
He assured that the male and female Kada Stars hockey team who were true sports ambassadors of the state would be adequately funded to compete favourably at the continental level having done the state proud at the National level.
“I want to assure you that our governor is capable and he has the interests of sports as he is a sports loving governor.
“Those days when Kada stars and Kada Queens couldn’t represent the continent for two seasons after they won it back- to-back because of lack of funding are now bye gone and a thing of the past.
“I want to assure you that our governor is going to sponsor this very ones,” he said.
He noted that he was impressed with the performance of the State teams, adding that hard work and good preparation was key to their victory.
“It’s hard work and they have been training very hard towards this preparation for the competition and in sports ,if you put on your best and when God is on your side and you put on your best, you will make it.
“I was impressed when I saw them defeating their opponents, I watched the match from beginning to end and I think they have done us well and us proud.
“The two teams both male and female will be representing us in the Africa stage and it’s not going to be easy,” he said.
