Fly Eagles Beat Water FC 1-0

On Wednesday, Nigeria’s U20 men’s football team, the Flying Eagles, narrowly defeated Water FC 1-0 in a warm-up match at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.

Water FC, known as one of Nigeria’s top academies that has developed many outstanding players for the national teams, played competitively against the 2022 WAFU B champions, finishing the first half 0-0.

Though the Nigerian national team has spent less than a week in training camp, they are steadily becoming a strong contender, with hopes of mirroring their success from 2022.

Coach Ali Zubairu remains optimistic that despite the limited preparation time, he can assemble a team that will excel against other West African nations in the upcoming 2024 WAFU B championship.

The WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship is a tournament featuring national teams from Zone B of the West African Football Union, with Ghana being the current champions.
