FG Releases fund To Offset NASU, Pensioners’ Outstanding

The Federal Government has released funds to clear outstanding salaries owed to members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU) and to pay benefits to retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme.

In a statement, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa, confirmed that payments to NASU members are already underway with numerous staff members reporting receipt.

The OAGF also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers and retirees.

The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and NASU declared an indefinite strike in response to four months of withheld salaries, disrupting activities across the nation’s universities.

The national president of SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim, had revealed that university officials including vice-chancellors, bursars and registrars had also gone unpaid for four months and added that universities would remain shut until all outstanding payments are resolved.
