Chairman of the Main Organising Committee of the Niger Delta Sports Festival Hon. Boma Iyaye has revealed that the Niger Delta Sports Festival will be a biannual festival.
Speaking during a media parley with journalists during the just concluded Festival the former commissioner for sport in River state has disclosed.
According to him, “having either an annual championship or a biannual championship. But we will look at the sports calendar of the National Sports Commission and have an understanding with them”.
“The fact that we are sponsoring events does not mean that we have the power to take decisions in the sporting sector. We still have a National Sports Commission that will decide what they want, if they want it annually or they want it biannually it is left for them to decide for the organiser” he said.
Speaking further, “we also want to use the tournament to help prepare the athletes of the region for the National Sports festival we know that our region is bless with talent and if they come to the festival it will also help to prepare them for Podium finish he concluded.
It will be recalled that Team Bayelsa emerged as the overall champions of the 2025 Niger Delta Sports Festival and were rewarded with a cash prize of N50 million for their outstanding performance.
