Chairman of Plateau State Football Association, Honorable Prince Suleiman Yahaya Kwande has revealed that his association has over 300 Football Academy under his watch in the state.
He said this in a live program on Plateau State most listened to Radio Station JayFM 101.9 Jos, Policy Pulse with veteran Journalist Yemi Kosoko over the weekend.
According to the former House of Representative member, When I came on board I was not too happy with what was going on with the academies on the Plateau, they will train a child and then the bigger club or Academy will come and take the child without compensation so I summoned a meeting with almost 300 football academy we have like 200 in Jos, some numbers in Jos North and some few one scattered over all the other local Government in the state so they all came together we had an agreement that all of them will register their players with the FA, they bring their players name, his passport photograph and his parental consent once you give us all these information if anybody takes the players from your academy all you just have to do is to write us a letter that this players is registered with your academy and the document are with the FA, we will just have to Write that these person started from these academy and if the person gets a foreign club there is a training compensation that comes with it we will make sure it comes to the Academy and what we are trying to do is to digitalised their activities but funds is actually the issue we are battling with, we are just trying to make sure everything is on the Internet. The Chairman said.
While explaining further, on the status of academy in Plateau State the chairman said.
“You see everything in Nigeria is not at par with what is obtained in foreign countries, a normal academy should have an hostel a training facility, and equipment but here most academy just have a coach and two or three balls and they have a pitch in the area and they come and train them and they go, it’s not really what you expected of an academy but if we say we should screen them to what an academy should have it’s going to be very difficult and it will discourage a lot of the academy owners what we are just doing is to encourage them, there are some that has hostel facilities, there are some with training pitches”. The FA Chairman enthused.
He also used the opportunity to praised those who have taking the privilege to establish a proper academy in the state “There is this academy called Global Peace they just acquired some hostel, training pitches and but then I think it’s the only one apart from the almighty Mees Palace which is an established academy on the Plateau and they have different cadre of academy players so we have one that we the people on the Plateau are proud of” he concluded.
