Former Super Eagles midfielder and Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Waidi Akanni, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to individuals and organizations that responded to his call for support in the burial of the legendary Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai. Akanni was particularly thankful to the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Tayo Ayinde, for approving N15 million for Rufai’s family.

Yemi Idowu President of Nath Boys Football Club all donated N1 million each, Senator Abba Moro and Hajji Gafar Liameed Chairman of Lagos State Football Association contributed N500,00, each and Former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo Donated N300,000.
Akanni also thanked Barrister Tunji Brown, the owner of Owu Sportswear company, for providing jerseys for the valedictory football match held to celebrate Rufai’s life. Akanni himself covered the costs of entertainment, food, drinks, and logistics for the burial event.
Akanni expressed his gratitude to all who supported the burial, including members of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN), Lagos Legends Club (LLC), Lagos State Sports Commission, Lagos State Football Association, ex-footballers, Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and members of the press. He prayed for God’s blessings on all who contributed to the success of the burial ceremony. The donations were channeled through Rufai’s sister, Dele Rufai, to ensure timely support for the family.
