The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has elected new officers to lead the federation for the next four years.
The election, which took place on Sunday at Gymnastics Hall Package B,MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saw Giandomenico Madsari return unopposed as president with 17votes.while former FIFA badged referee Dr. Ago Abdullahi emerged as the new 1st Vice President, polling 17 votes
The exercise, monitored and observed by the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) and National Sports Commission.
In his acceptance speech, Giandomenico Massari, who expressed deep appreciation to the delegates for their continued trust and support urged government and corporate organizations to do more for sports in the country.
“He reaffirming his status as a pivotal figure in development of Cycling in Nigeria and across Africa and urge government and corporate sponsor to pay more attention to sports so our youth can have better future.
“Sports generally need to be promoted not only at international level but at the grassroots that is place where talent begin it’s not a one man show sports is teams work.
“He noted that cycling is growing slowly in Nigeria, affecting the country’s performance in international competitions. To improve, the federation emphasizes the need for modern equipment and investment in the sport.
The CFN aims to encourage mass participation in cycling, promoting it as a means of transportation, recreation, and livelihood in a safe environment
The Representative of the Nigeria Olympic Committee NOC, Tunde Popoola who commended the federation for conducting a credible and constitutionally backed election, said the NOC is pushing for more women inclusion in the sports administration in Nigeria.
