NVBF, NOC Launch Olympic Solidarity Coaching Course For Beach Volleyball

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), has officially flagged off the Olympic Solidarity Beach Volleyball Coaching Course in Abuja — a landmark programme aimed at enhancing the technical competence of Nigerian coaches and deepening grassroots development in the sport.

The five-day course, powered by Olympic Solidarity, commenced today, November 4, 2025, and runs until November 9, 2025. It features 25 participants drawn from across the country, including coaches, referees, and technical officials eager to expand their expertise in Beach Volleyball.

The initiative is part of a global Olympic effort to equip national federations with modern coaching knowledge and methodologies in preparation for upcoming international competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Representing the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel, was Dolapo Olaniyan, Administrative and Project Personnel of the NOC, who underscored the importance of the programme to Nigeria’s sporting future.

> “This programme represents a significant investment in our coaches. It will empower them with essential technical knowledge and the skills required to take Beach Volleyball to greater heights,” she said. “Through Olympic Solidarity, we are creating pathways for excellence and sustainability within our sports system.”

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod, expressed gratitude to the NOC and the International Olympic Committee for their continuous support in advancing the technical capacity of Nigerian coaches.

> “This collaboration with the NOC and the IOC through Olympic Solidarity is vital,” Nimrod stated. “Nigeria has consistently maintained a top-three ranking in Africa in women’s Beach Volleyball for the past six years, and this programme will help us build on that legacy. We are already looking toward Los Angeles 2028 with confidence.”

He further emphasized the federation’s resolve to ensure coaches apply the knowledge gained from the course to develop young talents at all levels.

> “We cannot afford for coaches to attend training and go back to sleep. This is the time to work — to develop, mentor, and produce the next generation of Beach Volleyball champions,” Nimrod added

The course is being conducted by FIVB international instructor Javier Bosma, a respected global figure and former Olympian, who praised Nigeria’s enthusiasm and organizational commitment.

> “The participation level here is impressive,” Bosma noted. “This training will strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading Beach Volleyball nation in Africa. Development is a continuous process, and Nigeria has the potential to reach the very top.”

Bosma, who last visited Nigeria almost a decade ago, expressed admiration for the country’s passion for the sport and its strategic focus on building technical capacity from within.

NVBF Technical Representative, Surv. Timothy Samuel, reiterated the federation’s long-term vision for Beach Volleyball development in Nigeria.

> “This programme will inject fresh energy into our coaching and refereeing structures. From January to March next year, the commissions will roll out their developmental plans — from schools to local leagues — to identify and nurture young talents,” he said.

The Abuja training marks another milestone in Nigeria’s continuous effort to integrate Olympic values — excellence, friendship, and respect — into sports development. It also aligns with the federation’s broader objective of positioning Nigerian coaches and athletes for international recognition and participation.

> “We must continue to develop our coaches if we want to see our athletes excel globally,” Nimrod remarked. “This is not just a training — it is an investment in Nigeria’s sporting future.”

As the Olympic Solidarity Coaching Course progresses, participants will engage in theoretical and practical sessions covering technical instruction, player development, game analysis, and modern methodologies in Beach Volleyball coaching.

The course will culminate in a certification ceremony, with participants emerging as ambassadors of modern coaching standards — ready to drive the next phase of Beach Volleyball growth across Nigeria and Africa.
