Valencia is weighing the pros and cons of signing Sadiq Umar in January, with the Nigerian striker’s potential involvement in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco being a major concern. The tournament, scheduled for next month, could keep Sadiq away from the team for several weeks, which might deter Valencia from pursuing the deal.
Sadiq, who has had a loan stint with Valencia in the past, is reportedly on the club’s wishlist. However, the Spanish side is hesitant due to the lengthy absence his AFCON participation would entail. This isn’t the first time Sadiq’s AFCON involvement has impacted his transfer plans – he missed the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire due to injury.
Valencia had previously considered signing Sadiq permanently but opted out due to Real Sociedad’s high asking price of €9 million. With Sadiq’s current status and potential AFCON involvement, it’s uncertain whether Valencia will pursue the transfer.
