Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle praised his team’s progress after their 4-1 win over Gabon, saying they are adapting well to his tactical philosophy. Nigeria will now face DR Congo in the World Cup playoff final.
Chelle emphasized that building a clear team identity has been his main focus, highlighting the importance of knowing how to play in defense and offense. He commended his players for their commitment to improvement, saying, “Now these guys are improving mentally, technically, and they understand what I want to do for them.”
The Super Eagles displayed remarkable composure and resilience in extra time to secure their spot in the final. Chelle, however, remains cautious, stressing that the real challenge lies ahead. “This is nothing yet,” he said, adding that the team needs to focus on correcting some mistakes before the final match.
Nigeria’s path to the World Cup continues with the playoff final against DR Congo, scheduled for Sunday. The winner will advance to the intercontinental playoffs, one step closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
