Victor Anichebe expressed his disappointment with the Super Eagles’ performance against DR Congo, saying they were “so poor” and lacked a game plan or tactics. DR Congo deserved to win and progress to the intercontinental World Cup playoffs, according to the former striker.
Anichebe lamented Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the World Cup, posting on Instagram: “Nigeria won’t be at the World Cup again!” He attributed the team’s struggles to their inability to play effectively without star striker Victor Osimhen, praising DR Congo’s organization.
The former international has called for restructuring in Nigerian football to address the country’s declining fortunes. DR Congo beat Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time, with Chancel Mbemba scoring the decisive spot-kick.
Anichebe’s sentiments echo those of other critics who have questioned the team’s performance and the Nigeria Football Federation’s leadership. Other former players, like Victor Ikpeba, have also criticized the Super Eagles’ display, describing it as subpar.
