Abuja International Marathon:121 National Athletes To Battle Foreign Counterpart for $110,000

 

No fewer than 32 International elite athletes and 121 Nigeria elite athletes had registered for the first international marathon in Abuja.

The foreign athletes are mainly from Bahrain, Ethiopia, Ugandan , United State of America and Kenyan.

Also, one hundred and twenty National Athletes will battled their foreign counterpart for the 110,000 dollar at stake.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Olukayode Thomas said the 42.195 kilometers race will kick start at 6am from the city gate, Abuja.

Meanwhile, Abuja city gate, down to the final point àt Eagle square is wearing a new look as commercial activities is at it peak.

Foreigners who are in Abuja for the first time are exploring the opportunity to visit some important sites within the Federal Capital Territory.

The winner of the first edition of Abuja International Marathon race will take home 110,000 dollars.

While, the second and third position will take home 50,000 and 25,000 Dollars.

Some of the international elite athletes present at the press conference were; Naibet of Kenya (2.08 mins), David Kipkorir of Kenya (2.11 mins), Kure Takele of Ethiopia (2.15 mins), Kenya’s Daniel Muidi (2.09 mins) and Dickson Ngei also of Kenya (2.12 mins).

The female international elite athletes present were; Kumbai of Kenya (2.27 mins), Negasa of Ethiopia (2.29 mins), Kenya’s Monica Cheruto (2.32 mins) and full marathon debutant Ruth Jebet of Baharain (1.09 mins for 1/2 marathon).
