The Super Eagles are set to regroup in three weeks to begin preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. Despite their disappointing exit from the World Cup qualifiers after a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo, coach Eric Chelle is expected to lead the team in the upcoming tournament.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a new target for the team: reaching the final of the tournament. Chelle has already begun planning, and new faces are likely to be introduced to the squad. Three players who may make their AFCON debut are :
– Ryan Alebiosu, a defender from Blackburn Rovers
– Gibson Yah, a midfielder from FC Volendam
– Ebenezer Akinsamiro, a forward from Pisa FC in the Italian Serie A.

Some players from the World Cup qualifiers playoff may be dropped, including Olakunle Olusegun, while Terem Moffi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are expected to return to the squad. Dele-Bashiru’s fitness is also a positive note after his injury concerns. The Super Eagles will open their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on December 23 in Fez, Morocco, as they aim for a fourth continental title.
