Asisat Oshoala: Retirement Reports Spark Confusion Before WAFCON Semifinal

By Bosun Adeyemi.

Reports of Nigerian football star Asisat Oshoala’s retirement from international football have been debunked. Contrary to earlier claims, Oshoala has not made any public statement about retiring from the national team after the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The rumors started circulating 48 hours before Nigeria’s semifinal match against South Africa, with screenshots of a supposed Facebook post allegedly announcing her retirement. However, there is no evidence of such a post on Oshoala’s verified social media accounts.

Oshoala, who has recently joined Bay FC in the United States, has not publicly addressed the retirement rumors. The Super Falcons’ upcoming match against South Africa remains a high-stakes encounter, and fans are eagerly awaiting the team’s performance.
