
*Ajanah inter local govt basketball championship
Two time basketball Olympian, Olumide Oyedeji, has called on individual and corporate organisations in the country to priotise sports development to enable the teeming youths in the country who form more than 60% of the 160million persons in the country to discover their talents.
Oyedeji made the call Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 9th Justice Nasir Ajanah basketball competition, said sports development especially basketball is key to addressing the current unemployment in the country.
According to him ‘the competition had becomes a platform through which talents can easily be discovered for international competitions.”
While commending Justice Nasiru Ajanah , the Chief Judge of Kogi state, who himself was a proficient and very talented basketball player, for giving the youths the opportunity to showcase their talents, called on other well meaning indigenes of the state to emulate Justice Ajanah’s effort in designing similar programme to remove the youths from anti-social vices that are inimical to their future.
Oyedejii who was the first African player to feature in virtually all basketball competition in the world, charged the participants to utilise the opportunity created for them to develop their talents to become world class basketball players.
In his speech the administrator of Kogi local government area, Barrister Muhammed Tanko Musa, charged the players to see the competition as a source of fostering unity among the people of the state, appealing for the spirit of sportsmanship in the competition.
