The last has not been heard about the political rift between the presidential flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP Atiku Abubakar, and the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has taken a deeper dimension as the former has suddenly cancelled his planned campaign rally in the oil-rich Rivers state.
Alleged security threats to the rally was however cited on Monday in Abuja for the reason of cancellation of the campaign.
Atiku’s coordinator in the state, Senator Lee Maeba disclosed on Monday that the cancellation of the rally follows the dispute between the mainstream of the PDP and Governor Nyesom Wike who as leader of the G5 governors had been trenchant in the demand for the resignation of Senator Iyrochia Ayu as national chairman of the PDP.
Atiku had repeatedly refused to cave in to the demands for Ayu’s resignation.
Atiku in a statement on Monday through Rivers PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) said the rally billed for this week after earlier previous repeated postponements would no longer hold.
The statement by Sen Lee Maeba, PDP PCC Chairman in Rivers, noted that, “The expected victory of Atiku Abubakar does not worth the blood of any Rivers man or woman.”
