Cycling: NGO Urges FG To Create Bicycles Lanes In FCT

 

Chenuell Mobility, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has called on the Federal Government to provide more bicycles lanes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to encourage and boost cycling game to thrive.

The Chief Executive Officer of Chenuell Mobility Mr Emmanuel John, made the call in an interview on Saturday in Abuja.

According to him, the goal is to create more bicycles lanes around the city and have the longest routes in Abuja

“The recent edition of the Abuja Capital City Cyclists Championship with the theme “Cycling as a tool for urban Freedom” is the third edition since we began the cycling competition in 2021; this edition particular is highly”

“The organizer are utilizing it as an advocacy tool to make sure the city understands how important it is to advance cycling development in the country.

“ The routes at the Federal Secretariat, Ahmadu Bello way behind Eagle square where the event was held, would be a good place and others for the development in Nigeria,” he said.

There were no casualties in this year’s edition, adding that the just concluded events had about 216 professional cyclists, that participated in the competition .

“ The elites are among them; there are roughly 121 of them in the combined male and female category .

“ As a result, they stay in the scenario and continue to ride, making the total number of participants close to 96,” he said.

Additionally, there are the students, also referred to as amateurs; these are the young riders who are just starting out but are eager to learn, and driven to build a platform.

He said the cycling tournament allowed students to compete and take home individual awards.

“ Their accomplishments serve as motivation for them to continue winning, competing, and preparing for events in the future,” he said.

He noted that there aren’t many bicycle competitions for Nigerians; adding that, this is the only championship for the entire Northern Region in the country.

reports that the just concluded Abuja Capital City Cyclists Championship saw Bethel Vitals clinched the top spots in 140km Men Elite race, followed by Emmanuel Abba and Muritala Hassan that finished second and place third place respectively.

While in the Women’s Elite race of 80km saw Rosemary Marcus clinched the top spots with Grace Ayuba finishing runner up and Treasure Coxason take the third place
